Housing Navigation Success

We have been doing our housing navigation program for only year. In this year the team of AFO has helped 58 th persons with disabilities at risk of homeless or homeless reach their goals. By assisting with finding apartments, getting reconnected with social service providers. Such as ODSP and Ontario Works.  Also providing on going support and skill training programs. By donating you ensure that persons with disabilities can continue to have secure housing and better quality of life.

Comedy Fundraiser for Ability First Ottawa

afo comedy fundraiser

Ability First Ottawa Comedy Night at YukYuk’s was a great success… we raised $200.

We would like to thank Yuk Yuk’s, the comedians Michael Lifshitz -IllumAbilities, Kyle Brownrigg and Greg Schroder for donating their time to our cause. And also thank to our amazing team of volunteers: Brad, Jas Jassal, Majlinda Rrahmani, Nick Straccini,Teresa Scrivens, Michael Lifshitz, Cathy Aldrich and Andrew Mesley. To all our friends who were spreading the word and selling tickets on our behalf – just to list a few: Rogers TV Ottawa, Cable 22, Dylan Black and Roula Thomas.

Michael Lifshitz – Cripplingly Funny

To all those involved and participated thanks to you were raised $500 toward 2 of our members with disabilities to help go towards their first and last months rent.

Michael stepped on a comedy stage for the first time, 10 years ago. What started as a lost bet over a souvlaki dinner grew as Michael added speaking and writing to not only enlighten people as to what people with disabilities could accomplish, but to also inspire others to live life to the fullest…regardless of their limitations…because after all, as Michael says, “We all face challenges…mine just get me better parking spots!”. While there is still plenty of work to do, 10 years seems like a milestone to celebrate, so Michael is celebrating the only way he knows how…with comedy.

The evening will start with the lovely and talented Jazzfest/CityFolk/NAC Musician Danielle Allard performing for you while you enjoy drinks & dinner. (Food & drink are not included in your ticket purchase.) The comedians will then take over with opening acts Sean Carson (host of Off The Rails Comedy), Megan Honey and Kyle Brownrigg, before Michael closes the evening with a comedic look at the last 10 years and living life with a disability. The show will be hosted by Boom 99.7’s own Dylan Black.

$5 from every ticket sold will go to Ability First Ottawa, a local charitable organization that provides comprehensive services and support to individuals (with or without developmental disabilities) and their families.

Advance tickets are $15 (+ fees) until 4PM day of the show. If seats are still available, tickets are $20 at the door.

If interested in joining our next trip with activities, RV and food provide. Please call 613-291-5422 to reserve your spot.

A trip for 4 days is cost only $400.00. Booking for August.

Ability First Ottawa had a great trip to Logos Land August 12-15. We stayed in a lovely RV, went zip lining, played lawn bowling, went swimming, water sliding, and paddle boarding. At night we had a relaxing bonfires and were able to see the Perseid meteor shower!

Thank to all our supports for making this trip possible and to all our volunteers.

Since this was such a great success we will be hoping are looking for an extra volunteer driver with a car so that more persons with disabilites can come on our next trip. If interested please email Christina Ranieri christinar294@gmail.com
