Ability First Ottawa is very pleased to be working with Majlinda Rrahmani of Green Earth Used Clothing Recycling Inc, who has placed over 60 clothing donation boxes across the City of Ottawa.

If your interested in assisting Majlinda find new locations for donation clothing boxes, or you are a property owner interested in having a box placed on your property, please email This would be on a volunteer basis.

Ability First Ottawa follows all by-law requirements related to Clothing Donation Boxes as follows:

City of Ottawa Clothing Donation Box By-law:

The City of Ottawa Clothing Donation Box By-law provides that non-profit organizations and for-profit businesses can place clothing donation boxes on private property with the following requirements:

  • Permission of the property owner.
  • The donation box must be properly maintained.
  • The area surrounding the donation box must be maintained in accordance with property standards and maintenance regulations.

The boxes must display signage that clearly identifies that the operator is a charity, non-profit organization or a for-profit business; and, the name and address of both the property owner and clothing box operator must also be identified.

Mandatory Signage Requirements:  The sign must include the following information in lettering no smaller than Arial 150 font, in a contrasting colour:

  • Name and address of the property owner.
  • Business name of owner or operator (if applicable).
  • Type of organization if the operator is not a charity.
  • The Canada Revenue Agency charity number (if the operator is a charity).
  • Operator’s name, address and telephone number.
  • Schedule of pick up times for the donation box.
  • Location of any alternate clothing donation boxes of the same operator.

If you see clothing donation boxes that do not follow these rules, it is a good idea to inform the owner of the property so they can have illegal clothing box bins removed.  This will ensure that charities in need of this revenue source will have a better chance of receiving it.
