Since Covid became a regular part of our vocabulary and lockdowns became the norm, we have had to shift our focus. Shortly after the first case of Covid 19 was reported in Ottawa and it became a pandemic, Ability First Ottawa shut down its regular programming.  It was clearly too risky to have immune compromised participants attending any programs.  AFO was also made aware that the rest of the disabled community was stuck at home, unable to leave for fear of catching the virus themselves.

Therefore, an Outreach Plan was put together to help those with disabilities that were at home and afraid to leave. Safety items were gathered and distributed. These items included face masks, gloves, hand sanitizers, information about the virus and its symptoms.

Given to people

Ability First Ottawa was very grateful to receive the Ottawa Community Foundation Grant that helped us to provide PPE Kits to people during the first wave of Covid 19. Subsequently, we have received another grant from the Canadian Community Foundation to continue our work and a second grant from the Ottawa Community Foundation so that we can continue with our Outreach work in 2022.

If you are in need of assistance please contact us and indicate that you are interested in the Outreach Plan.

When it is safe to do so, Ability First Ottawa, plans to reopen its regular programming.  However, all programming, other than Covid Outreach, is currently cancelled. We are currently considering online sessions or events.  Thank you for your support and understanding.
